The NC State University Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering is pleased to announce the addition of two new faculty members:
Dr. Michael Daniele, who received his PhD from Clemson University in 2012, comes to us from the Naval Research Laboratory, where he has been the Jerome and Isabella Karle Distinguished Scholar and Staff Scientist. Dr. Daniele’s primary area of interest is the broad application of soft nanomaterials to engineer devices which monitor, mimic or augment biological function. Specific topics of research include wearable and implantable biosensors, organ-on-a-chip models, and human-machine interfaces. His research is of great interest to the ASSIST Center at NCSU.
Dr. Daniele will have a joint appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and theDepartment of Biomedical Engineering, with ECE as his home department.
Bobby Compton joins the faculty as the new director of NC State’s Electrical and Computer Engineering Senior Design Center. He has over 20 years of industry experience in electronics design, embedded software design and printed circuit board packaging during his careers at GE Energy, GE Healthcare and Eaton Corporation. He has product design experience in: medical diagnostic imaging equipment, medical vitals sensors, industrial controls, motor drives and uninterruptible power supplies. In addition, he has extensive teaching experience, including being a Six Sigma training instructor, teaching sections of Duke’s Masters of Engineering practicum ENGRMGT 556 and mentoring students in our own EPSE and senior design programs. He has also served as the Chair of the FREEDM Center’s Industrial Advisory Board.
Bobby Compton received his BS and MS Degrees in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Tech. He also obtained an MBA from Duke University, where he graduated as a Fuqua Scholar in the top 10% of the class.
