ECE Welcomes New Faculty

NC State ECE is proud announce the addition of five members to the faculty. A variety of scholars from all over the country, and various parts of the world, having joined the Wolfpack to lend their experience and expertise to our students and research.

Ismail received his PhD from the University of South Florida in 2006, and subsequently spent 6 years as a research engineer at DOCOMO Innovations in Palo Alto. Since 2012 he has been an Assistant Professor at Florida International University, where he established the Mobile, Pervasive, and Autonomous Communication Technologies (MPACT) Research Lab. As of November 2015 he had secured 6 major grants, including an NSF CAREER Award. Going forward he plans to focus on 5G networks, communications for unmanned areal vehicles, and software defined radios. Guvenc will be joining us as an Associate Professor.

Matt received his PhD in Statistics from UCLA in 2011, and continued there as a post doctoral researcher for two years. Since 2014 he has been Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Statistics at UCLA. His research interests include machine learning, big data, and computer vision. He will be working with Hamid Krim and Edgar Lobaton as part of the new Visual Narratives cluster. Wu will be joining us as an Assistant Professor.

 

Victor received his Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in electrical and computer engineering from Johns Hopkins University and an M.S. degree in electrical engineering from the National Technical University of Athens. He comes to us from Northrop Grumman, where he was senior advisory engineer and led efforts in the design, fabrication, and testing of various wide bandgap devices. Veliadis will be joining as CTO of PowerAmerica as well as a professor in ECE.

 

 

Bob received his Ph.D. from our Department in 1993, under the supervision of Paul Franzon. He comes to us most recently from Qualcomm where he is a Power Design Network Engineer. Prior to this he spent a number of years at Cisco as a Technical Leader, and before that with IBM as an Advisory Engineer. Dr. Evans will be joining as an Associate Professor.

 

Michela received her M.S. and Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis in 2009, and a Laurea degree from Politecnico di Milano in 2000. She worked at NEC Laboratories in Princeton NJ and at IBM Research and Development GmbH in Boeblingen, Germany. Since 2010 she has been an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Missouri-Columbia with joint appointments in Computer Science and the Informatics Institute of the University of Missouri. She received an NSF CAREER Award in 2015, and the University of Missouri System President’s Award for Early Career Excellence in 2016. Dr. Becchi will be joining as an Associate Professor.
