ECE Assistant Professor, Amro Awad, is the recipient of the 2022-23 R. Ray Bennett Faculty Fellow Award. The mother of Mr. R. Ray Bennett, Mrs. Alice B. Bennett, endowed a faculty fellowship for the NC State Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering as a memorial to her son. The R. Ray Bennett Faculty Fellow Award provides support for high-achieving young faculty in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at NC State in pursuing their academic and cutting-edge research initiatives. This recognition is presented annually by the ECE Department to a single individual with a $40,000 cash award.
Awad has established a very active and productive research record since becoming an assistant professor at the University of Central Florida in 2017. He joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at NC State in 2020 as an assistant professor. Awad completed his Master’s and Ph.D. in computer engineering at NC State in 2016.
He has been PI/co-PI on over $6 million in funded research with his share being more than $4 million. His research group has been funded by DARPA, Sandia National Laboratories, NSF, Naval Surface Warfare Center, and Air Force Research Lab. He is presently supervising 8 Ph.D. students and 5 Master’s students in the department.
His research interests are in the area of memory systems and secure hardware architectures and include emerging memory architectures, confidential computing, and non-volatile memories. He has consistently published in the most respected conferences in his field and will be inducted this year to the IEEE HPCA Hall of Fame for having published 8 papers in the very competitive HPCA conference.
