Congratulations to Hyeonjin Kim on being named a 2025 Scholar of the Year! 🏆⚡

As a Ph.D. student in NC State ECE, Kim is pioneering data-driven solutions for power system analysis and smart energy systems. With eight published papers, two more under review, and research experience at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and the Electric Power Research Institute, he is already making a global impact on the future of sustainable energy.

Their lithium-free, eco-friendly battery earned third place and a $5,000 prize at the National Startup Summit 2025, standing out among 75 teams from across the country.

Researchers in NC State ECE have secured a $5 million DARPA grant to lead HAPPI — a new project to improve energy-efficient communication in microsystems through 3D photonic routing.

Led by Stan Cheung, Fred Kish and Jonathan Wierer, the team is collaborating with UT Austin, Caltech and Triangle-based NHanced Semiconductors to scale this transformative tech for applications in AI, quantum computing and beyond.
