The IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS) Outstanding Achievement Award is a recognition of outstanding contributions in the application of electricity to industry. And this accolade was presented to Dr. Iqbal Husain at the recent IAS Annual Meeting held in conjunction with the Energy Conference Congress and Expo in Detroit, Michigan.
“I am very honored to have my name added to such a long list of contributors to the field of industry applications,” said Husain. “It felt great to receive this award in the presence of many of my current and former students.”
From the announcement: “Professor Husain’s research is focused on renewable energy resource integration into power systems and transportation electrification with wide-bandgap power electronic devices and permanent magnet and reluctance machine drives. In the FREEDM Center, Husain and his team designed, built, and tested solid-state transformers for grid applications and fast chargers and
developed system control algorithms for grid-forming inverters. In the electric motor drives area, his contributions are in the development of rare-earth-free or reduced rare-earth-based electric motor drives for electric vehicles. He has developed graduate and undergraduate courses
on electric and hybrid vehicles, and he wrote the textbook Electric and Hybrid Vehicles: Design Fundamentals on this topic.”
Congratulation to Dr. Husain for this well-deserved award!
