The Graduate School offers an array of career preparedness, communication skills, leadership, teaching, and wellness programs which are broken down by five competency areas. If you are not sure where to start with your professional development, go to our Getting Started page for guidance.

COMMUNICATION SKILLSThe Communication Skills Program offers all masters, doctoral, and postdoctoral scholars several program and workshop opportunities to develop their verbal and written communication skills for their academic and professional career. All programming can be applied towards the Communication Skills Certificate, which is included as a notation on graduate students’ transcripts.

For those who need to get a writing project completed (thesis, article, etc.), be sure to consider the Writing Retreat!

TEACHINGThe Teaching Programs provide Graduate Teaching Assistants with numerous workshops and related growth opportunities for strengthening their teaching skills and deepening their knowledge of effective, research-based strategies. Workshops are offered both in-person and online and can also be applied towards a Teaching Certificate, which is included as a notation on their transcript. One workshop that is timely is “Teaching in an AI Environment” on September 15th – and be sure to check out the other topics as well.

MENTORINGMentoring Matters” is a half-day workshop designed to equip mentees with strategies that foster more productive and successful relationships with their mentors. This program will be held on Thursday, August 27th from 1 to 4:45 p.m. on Centennial Campus. Be sure to register here to sign up. Questions?
