Advising FAQ
In fall 2025, our undergraduate curriculum changed and introduced official concentrations. Here are the answers to your frequently asked questions.
Is ST 371 still required in the new curriculum?
Yes, all students are required to take ST 371 (not ST 370) under the old and new curriculum.
I am a continuing student, am I required to complete a concentration?
If you are a continuing student and have attended NC State prior to Fall 2025, you are not required to change to the new curriculum. You have the option to opt-in to the new curriculum.
If Fall 2025 is your first semester at NC State as an incoming first year student or an incoming transfer student (or your first time in a degree-seeking program), you are required to follow the new curriculum.
I’m following the new curriculum – do I need to complete the new Foundations of American Democracy GEP requirement?
Yes – if you are following the new curriculum that started in Fall 2025, there is also a new GEP put in place that starts in Fall 2025 as well. This is a co-requisite, which means you can meet this requirement while completing another GEP requirement or may have already met this with previously completed coursework.
Is there a deadline to opt-into new degree requirements or declare/change my concentration?
The google form to change your degree to the new fall 2025 version will be open for submissions and remain open. The latest you can change your degree requirements or declare your concentration will be prior to applying for graduation. However, once you meet minimum requirements to declare your major we do encourage you to do so if you are confident in what you’d like to pursue.
