Let's Get Started! Next Steps for NC State Faculty @ ECE
I signed my offer letter...what is next?
*Steps noted with an asterisk are required steps for employment at NC State University however we strongly recommending reviewing all steps
The first step is to complete your background check. Typically between 1-3 business days that your offer letter is signed you will receive an email from our university's background check vendor, InfoMart with instructions on how to submit your background check.
All faculty hired at NC State University will also undergo a verification of their education credentials as part of the background check processing.
Note: If you are employee that does not need employment sponsorship you may skip this step
ECE Human Resources initiates all nonimmigrant status requests (H-1B, TN, E-3, O-1) with our university's International Employment Office for employees requiring employment sponsorship. The system used to collect information is called GlobalHome. If you need employment sponsorship, please contact us along with your Date of Birth so that we can assist with establishing a GlobalHome profile: ece-humanresources@ncsu.edu
While we are processing your background check, we encourage you to check out the information on our university's onboarding employee resource page.
Once your hire action is fully approved in our system, you be able to setup your official onboarding appointment with the University Onboarding Center and you will also receive information on setting up your NC State University Unity account.
Check out these resources as you plan your move to the Triangle area
My background check is complete and I received my Onboarding Center Email...
Once your background check is completed and your hire action is now fully loaded into our system. You will also receive an automated email from the OBC prompting you to schedule an initial appointment with an in-person or zoom option. Appointments typically last 45-60 minutes.

The I-9 Form is a required federal document to verify the identity and employment authorization of employees ensuring legal authorization of employment in the United States. There are two parts to the I-9 Form, Section 1 and Section 2.

Duo Security adds Two-Factor Authentication to services at NC State that use Shibboleth authentication, such as MyPack Portal and WolfWare. Students need to enroll in two-factor authentication (2FA) to be able to enroll in or change direct deposit information.
Faculty are paid on a monthly basis (once at the end of the month) and are required to sign up for direct deposit. We recommend waiting until your first day of work to enroll as sometimes the system will not allow you enroll prior to your first day.
If you would like to receive your W-2 electronically, click on Employee Self Service > Payroll and Compensation > W2/W2c Consent and follow the prompts. Your W-2 form will be uploaded in the MyPack Portal as a PDF at the end of January for any time worked during the previous calendar year.
The NC State Data Security Training is required for anyone accessing University systems. This self-guided training takes approximately 30 minutes and is accessed in REPORTER. Click Data Security Training to access the checklist.
