Emergency Evacuation Assembly Areas

Leave the building immediately via the nearest exit. Do not re-enter the building until authorized by emergency responders.

In the event of a declared evacuation, assemble:

  • If in EB2: on the Oval Lawn between EB1 and EB3
  • If in MRC: on the Plaza
  • If in KSC: in the lower level of the parking deck furthest from the building

Await instructions by emergency responders.

Active Shooter

Active shooter situations are dynamic and evolve quickly. Be aware of various response alternatives, consider the specifics of the event and be prepared to act fast based on the information you have at that time. If possible, RUN and move away from the violence, keeping your hands visible. If movement isn’t possible, HIDE and shelter in place, barricade doors, and take cover. As a last resort when in imminent danger, FIGHT and attempt to overpower or disarm the shooter.

Severe Weather Shelter Areas

In the event of a tornado or severe weather, seek shelter inside a sturdy building, on the lowest floor possible, away from windows and doors.

  • In EB2, seek shelter in the basement if possible.
  • In MRC, seek shelter in the first floor (basement) east hallway.

Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

If you see someone collapse, immediately dial 911 or 919.515.3000. Have someone retrieve an AED. Start chest compressions immediately—push hard, fast and deep in the center of the chest. Apply AED pads and follow all voice prompts.

  • In EB2, an AED is located outside the 3rd floor west (3009) restrooms.
  • In MRC, an AED is located outside MRC 426.
Consult Environmental Health and Safety for more detailed information.

First aid kits and emergency procedure cards have been placed in all kitchens in EB2 and MRC:

  • EB2 3116
  • EB2 2020
  • MRC 336
  • MRC 464
