*Steps noted with an asterisk are required steps for employment at NC State University however we strongly recommending reviewing all steps
Complete on Your First Day
The I-9 Form is a required federal document to verify the identity and employment authorization of employees ensuring legal authorization of employment in the United States. There are two parts to the I-9 Form, Section 1 and Section 2.
Section 1 must completed on or before your first day of work. An email will be sent to your NC State email address with instructions and log in information to complete section 1.
Section 2 must be completed no later than 3 business days from your first day of work. The employee is responsible for bringing current, original and unexpired document(s) to the I-9 Center.
Campus Locations to Complete an I-9 Form
Administrative Services II | Business Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 4:30 pm (no appointment needed) |
University Onboarding Center | Business Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm (no appointment needed) |
Returning Employees: If you have previously worked for the University, please contact the I-9 Center at i9questions@ncsu.edu to determine if a new I-9 is needed.
Duo Security adds Two-Factor Authentication to services at NC State that use Shibboleth authentication, such as MyPack Portal and WolfWare. Students need to enroll in two-factor authentication (2FA) to be able to enroll in or change direct deposit information.
Students are paid on a biweekly basis (once every two weeks) and are required to sign up for direct deposit. We recommend waiting until your first day of work to enroll as sometimes the system will not allow you enroll prior to your first day.
The W4 and NC4 tax forms should be filled out electronically via the MyPack Portal from Employee Self Service > Payroll and Compensation > NC4/W4 tax data.
Both the federal and state tax forms are defaulted to a marital status of Single and 0 allowances. If you would like to change this click on “Submit New Federal Tax Withholding Allowance Certificate (W-4)” and “Submit New State of North Carolina Tax Withholding Information”. If you would like to file as “Single” and “0” allowances no action is needed.
Foreign National Student Employees do not have access to update the Tax Data panel. Schedule an appointment with the International Compensation & Taxation office to ensure taxes are charged correctly based on your work authorization and country of origin treaty agreements. Appointments can be scheduled by emailing ictquestions@ncsu.edu
If you would like to receive your W-2 electronically, click on Employee Self Service > Payroll and Compensation > W2/W2c Consent and follow the prompts. Your W-2 form will be uploaded in the MyPack Portal as a PDF at the end of January for any time worked during the previous calendar year.
To access the Information Security Acknowledgement (ISA) form, log in to the MyPack Portal and click on Personal Details > Information Security Acknowledgment Form. Read the form and click the “I agree” box at the bottom of the form.
The NC State Data Security Training is required for anyone accessing University systems. This self-guided training takes approximately 30 minutes and is accessed in REPORTER. Click Data Security Training to access the checklist.
Student workers on hourly appointments are required to maintain (i.e. clock in/out) time worked in WolfTime, NC State University's' timekeeping and leave tracking system.
Students on Graduate Assistantships can skip this section as those appointments do not require clocking in/out time worked.
