Onboarding/Offboarding

NCSU Onboarding/Offboarding Center

NC State’s Onboarding Center provides a one-stop resource for new university employees. The center’s staff is committed to helping new members of the Wolfpack family successfully navigate the critical first year of employment at the university.

The center also coordinates new employee orientation and maintains the New Employee Checklist, an online self-service system – https://onboarding.ncsu.edu/onboarding-center/.

When permanent employees are hired and approved in the JAR system, the Onboarding Center will send them an automatic email, copying the supervisor, with instructions on obtaining their unity ID and creating a password to set up and finalize their account. Employees are also prompted to reach out to set up an onboarding appointment within the first couple of days so they can meet one on one with an Onboarding Center Specialist. Employees are also sent I-9 information and links to complete part 1. Also note: since the College processes these appointments in JAR, the HR Manager has no idea when these emails actually go out to the employees. The HR Manager should monitor the HR Dashboard and/or their JAR worklist to have a general idea of what stage in the approval process the action is to give the employee a better idea of when the appointment will be approved and when they can expect the Onboarding email.

There is also information regarding offboarding on their website (https://onboarding.ncsu.edu/offboarding/). Offboarding describes the separation process when an employee leaves the university whether through resignation, retirement, or termination. The employee, supervisor, and department HR representative all play key roles in the process. Guides are provided that include action items to be completed prior to the employee’s last day of work. Utilizing these tools AS SOON AS NOTICE IS GIVEN will ease the transition for both the employee and the department. Once the JAR action is submitted by the Dean’s Office, a notification gets sent to the separating employee and supervisor notifying them of offboarding resources. This is only for permanent monthly employees.
